Welcome back to Willard East! We have an exciting year ahead of us and our theme for this school year is “Roaring with Pride at Willard East.” This is a jungle theme and our students will receive there Tiger T-shirts on Thursday Sept. 25 for our first Tiger Pride assembly. We will also have a school-wide picture taken at the football field at 3:00 PM. You are welcome to join us and bring your camera as well.

Character Education – Again we want our students to focus on having good character. September word of the month is Respect.
Individual student pictures are this Friday Sept. 12th.
DRA Testing - DRA stands for the Developmental Reading Inventory. This is a comprehensive test our teachers use determine your child’s reading level. This test is usually given individually and teachers pull students to a quiet area. You will be informed of your child’s reading level at P/T conferences in October. This test is only given twice a year. Within the month your child’s teacher will be administering this test to your student.
MRI = Missouri Reading Initiative – Our teachers are in their 2nd year of professional development through the Missouri Reading Initiative. Year one focus was on Guided Reading and year two focus is on Writing. This is a job-embedded professional development model. This means that the training takes place in the school with modeling and coaching done in the classroom with their own students.
